about

I'm Cecilia Vinesse, and I'm the author of The Girl Next Door (Quill Tree Books), Seven Days of You, and The Summer of Us (Little, Brown Books for Young Readers).

I always knew I wanted to tell stories, and I was always drawn to writing, because, as a shy kid, it felt like a natural way to express myself. I could be funny and goofy and outgoing on the page in ways I struggled to be in real life. Even as I got older and a little more confident, writing remained my solace, something I returned to again and again.

I was born in France, raised between Japan and South Carolina, and then, inspired by my love of Nora Ephron movies, I moved to New York City where I attended Barnard College. My obsession with books has shaped every part of my career. During my time in New York, I worked in children's book publishing and lived in an apartment furnished mostly by stacks of novels. After that, I got a job in the snowy cold of northern Japan and, from there, headed to Scotland where I earned my master's degree in creative writing at the University of St Andrews. My dissertation became my first novel, Seven Days of You, which I finished while also working in a rare books library and drinking lots of coffee in my tiny house by the sea.

Now, I live in England where I spend most of my non-writing time devouring rom-coms and podcasts, baking as many cookies as possible, and watching horror movies well past my bedtime.

A pug named Malfi and a Renaissancist named Rachel are my favorite things in the world.

And also books. I should probably mention the books again.
